iPhone Not Charging? How to Fix Charging Port Problems (2026)
Most charging problems can be fixed in minutes for free. Try these before booking a repair.
Step 1: Clean the port
Lint compacted into the Lightning or USB-C port is the most common cause. Use a wooden or plastic toothpick (never metal) to gently loosen debris, then blow out with compressed air.
Step 2: Try a different cable and charger
Third-party cables fail frequently. Test with a genuine Apple cable. If a different cable works, the cable was the problem.
Step 3: Restart your iPhone
Hold Side + Volume Down, slide to power off, wait 30 seconds, restart.
Step 4: Check for iOS update
Settings → General → Software Update. Some iOS versions have charging bugs fixed in updates.
Signs you need a charging port replacement
- Cable feels loose or falls out easily.
- Phone only charges at a specific angle.
- Charging is intermittent.
- Port looks corroded or has bent pins.
