Not sure what the fault is?
If your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 5G has multiple faults, liquid damage, no power, intermittent charging, or you are not sure which repair to choose, book a diagnosis first. We confirm the fault before any work begins.
If we discover water damage during your repair that affects the work, we will stop and let you know. A water damage diagnosis is applicable at the current fee, and we will confirm this with you before we proceed.

The first Fold with the gapless Flex Hinge, closing completely flat and shedding weight over the Fold4. The redesigned hinge changes the disassembly route, and regional variation in charging port flex parts still applies to this generation. Two Screens, Two Different Repairs
This is the single most useful thing to understand before you book. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 5G has two displays and people regularly book the wrong one.
- The inner folding display is the 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X folding display, 120Hz. It bends. It is a flexible assembly with a bonded protective layer on top, and it is the most expensive and most delicate component in the device. Creasing, a dark band along the fold, dead touch along the crease or half the panel going black all point here. It carries a 3-month warranty, because a folding panel is a moving part in a way that an ordinary screen is not.
- The outer screen is the 6.2-inch cover display. It is rigid, it does not bend, and it takes the hit when the device is dropped while closed. Cracked outer glass does not mean the folding panel needs replacing, and the two are priced very differently. It carries a 12-month warranty.
If both are damaged we will say so before starting, with a price for each, and you can choose to do one or both.
The Fold Sensor, And Why We Calibrate It
Your Z Fold5 has no physical way of knowing whether it is open or shut. It works it out from a small magnet in one half of the device and a Hall effect sensor in the other. That quiet little pairing is what wakes the inner display when you open it, puts it to sleep when you close it, and hands your session over to the outer screen.
Any repair that separates the two halves can leave that sensor reading incorrectly. So can a replacement folding display, a battery replacement, or a back cover swap where the magnet sits in the housing. The symptoms are unmistakable once you know them:
- The inner display stays black when you open the device, even though the phone is clearly awake
- The outer screen stays lit after you close it, and the battery drains overnight for no obvious reason
- The device flickers between the inner and outer screens as you move the hinge
- Flex Mode or the split hinge behaviours stop triggering at the angles they used to
We calibrate the fold detection sensor and run the full open and close cycle on every repair that opens the device. It is part of the job and it is included in the price. It is also the step most commonly skipped by cheaper repairs, and it is why a device can come back from a screen repair technically fixed but behaving oddly.
Testing Your Repair Without Handing Over Your Data
A repair has to be tested. On a foldable that means opening and closing the device dozens of times, checking touch across the whole panel, and confirming the fold detection sensor behaves. None of that requires us to read your messages or look at your photos, and Samsung agrees, which is why the Z Fold5 has Maintenance Mode built in.
Maintenance Mode puts your Z Fold5 into a temporary blank account. We can power it on, run the tests and confirm the repair works, but your photos, messages, accounts and apps stay locked away and invisible. Anything created while it is switched on is deleted the moment you turn it off, so nothing we do leaves a trace on your account.
To turn it on before posting your device to us, or before dropping it in:
- Open Settings
- Tap Battery and device care, or Device care depending on your One UI version
- Tap Maintenance Mode, then Turn on
- The device restarts into the blank account. Your data is now sealed off
When your Z Fold5 comes back, turn it off in the same place and everything returns exactly as it was. Your PIN or pattern still unlocks the device normally, so you do not need to send us any credentials.
Two honest caveats. Maintenance Mode hides your data from us, so if your fault only shows up in your own apps or with your own accounts signed in, we may need to test outside it to reproduce the problem. And if the device will not power on at all, it cannot be enabled, in which case just send it as it is. If you would rather not use Maintenance Mode, that is completely fine. Tell us and we will work around it.
Common Z Fold5 Repairs
- Inner folding display: the panel that bends. 3-month warranty. Part ordered in, typically 1 working day. No express fitting on this repair.
- Outer screen: the rigid cover display. 12-month warranty. Express fitting available once the ordered part has arrived.
- Battery: the Z Fold5 splits its battery across two cells, one either side of the hinge, so this is a longer job than on a conventional phone. 6-month warranty.
- USB-C charging port: loose cable fit, intermittent charging, accessories not recognised. 12-month warranty.
- Rear camera: three options. The camera glass lens on its own, the rear camera module, or the front camera. Modules carry a 12-month warranty. Lens glass carries none, because it is a solid glass component and any later breakage is impact rather than workmanship.
- Back cover: cracked rear glass or a panel lifting from the chassis.
Common Problems We Fix
- A dark line or band running along the crease of the folding panel
- Touch not registering along the fold, or the inner panel going black on one half
- The protective layer on the inner display lifting or bubbling. Never peel this off by hand. It is structural, not a screen protector, and removing it destroys the panel
- Cracked outer cover glass after a drop while the device was closed
- The inner screen not waking on unfold, or the outer screen not sleeping on close
- Grit in the hinge, or a hinge that no longer holds an angle
- Battery running flat quickly, or the device shutting down before reaching zero per cent
- Charging only working when the USB-C cable is held at an angle
- Rear camera lens glass shattered, causing blurring and flare in every photo
Walk-In and Mail-In Repairs
Our workshop is at 35 New Broad Street, London EC2M 1NH, 3 minutes from Liverpool Street Station. Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours, though foldable parts are ordered in rather than held in stock, so placing your order online first means the part is on its way before you arrive.

Why Choose Square Repair?
- Foldable repairs are our specialism, not an afterthought. We work on Flip and Fold devices every week
- Fold detection calibrated and tested on every repair that opens the device, not left for you to discover
- Clear warranty terms by repair type, stated plainly, with no vague promises
- IPX8 when new, and we will tell you the truth about it. The rating depends on a factory seal that cannot be recreated outside a factory. We reseal with fresh adhesive, but nobody can recertify the rating, so treat the device as not water resistant after any repair.
- Established repair centre near Liverpool Street, walk-in or UK-wide mail-in
- No data wipe. Every repair here is a hardware procedure and your data is untouched
