How to Take Burst Photos on iPhone (2026 Guide)
Burst mode lets your iPhone capture up to 10 photos per second — perfect for action shots, sports, or pets. Here's how it works on every current model.
iPhones with Face ID (iPhone 11 and later)
Holding the shutter now starts video. Use these methods instead:
- Open Camera.
- Slide the shutter button left (towards the edge of the screen) and hold.
- Release when done — shots save to a Burst album.
Or: go to Settings → Camera → Use Volume Up for Burst then hold Volume Up to shoot.
Older iPhones (iPhone 6 to iPhone X)
- Open Camera.
- Hold the shutter button (or Volume Down button).
- Release when done.
How to choose your best burst shot
- Go to Photos and find the burst (shows a stack icon).
- Tap Select… at the bottom.
- Swipe through — iPhone suggests the best with a grey dot.
- Tap Done → Keep Only X Favourites.
