How to Duplicate Photos and Videos on iPhone
Before editing a photo, duplicate it first — that way you always have the original.
Duplicate a single photo or video
- Open Photos and find the image.
- Tap the Share button (square with arrow, bottom left).
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Duplicate.
The copy appears in Recents instantly. Edits to one don't affect the other.
Duplicate multiple photos at once
- Tap Select in the library.
- Tap all the photos you want.
- Tap the Share button → Duplicate X Photos.
Do you need to duplicate? iOS edits are non-destructive
Any edit made in the native Photos app can be reverted — tap Revert on an edited photo. You only need to duplicate if you're using a third-party editor like Lightroom or Snapseed that saves a new file.
