Important information about battery messages on iOS 18 and above
After a battery replacement, your iPhone may show notices in Settings > General > About and in Settings > Battery. These messages are informational and do not stop the phone from working normally.
What you might see
- Important Battery Message — a temporary alert following a battery change.
- Parts & Service History — shows the status of fitted parts such as Genuine, Unknown, or (on newer models) Used.
- Battery Health — on iOS 18, many devices still show health metrics even when Apple cannot verify the battery. In that case, you may see a note such as “Apple can’t verify this information.”
What the statuses mean
- Genuine: The battery was fitted using Apple’s processes or is a genuine Apple part that has been correctly configured.
- Unknown: The battery is not verified by Apple, was previously installed elsewhere, or iOS cannot read its serial data. Functionality is not blocked.
- Used (iPhone 15 and later on iOS 18): Indicates a genuine Apple battery that was previously used in another iPhone.
Good to know
- Your iPhone will continue to charge and operate as normal with a quality replacement battery.
- On some models, health percentage may be shown with a verification note; on others, health may be unavailable for non-verified batteries.
- Messages in Settings can remain visible for a period after repair; this is expected behaviour.
- Battery replacements from Square Repair include a 6-month warranty. Most other repairs are covered for 12 months.
If you have questions about the message you see, speak to our team. We’ll explain what it means for your specific iPhone model and iOS version.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I tell if my iPhone 14 battery needs replacing?
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging on your iPhone 14. If maximum capacity is below around 80 per cent, a replacement will make a noticeable difference to battery life. Common signs include the battery draining much faster than it used to, the device shutting off unexpectedly at 20 to 40 per cent, the percentage dropping suddenly mid-use, the device running warm during ordinary tasks, or the screen appearing to lift from the frame, which can indicate a swollen battery and should be booked in without delay.
Will I lose any data during a iPhone 14 battery replacement?
No. Battery replacement is a hardware-only procedure. Your photos, contacts, apps and settings are not touched at any point. We do not access your software or factory reset the device during a standard battery repair.
What battery options are available for the iPhone 14?
We offer two options for the iPhone 14. The High Quality Battery is a quality aftermarket cell that restores normal battery life and performance, compatible with the iPhone 14's Lightning charging. MagSafe and Qi wireless charging are both verified after the repair. The Genuine Apple Battery is an original Apple component that clears any battery health or service warnings shown in Settings and matches Apple's original health monitoring. If you are unsure which suits your situation, we will advise when you arrive.
How long does a iPhone 14 battery replacement take?
Most iPhone 14 battery replacements are completed the same day, subject to parts availability and current workload. Walk-in customers are typically seen within a few hours. Mail-in customers from elsewhere in the UK receive their device back the next working day after the repair is complete. We contact you before proceeding if anything unexpected comes up during assessment.
Can I walk in without an appointment for a iPhone 14 battery replacement?
Yes. Walk-in customers are welcome at our workshop near Liverpool Street Station during opening hours. You can also book online in advance if you need a specific time. For mail-in repairs, please place your order online so we can log and track your iPhone 14 from the moment it arrives.
What warranty is included with the iPhone 14 battery replacement?
Every iPhone 14 battery replacement includes a 6-month warranty on the replacement battery. This covers manufacturing defect and failure under normal use. Physical damage and liquid ingress are not covered. If you experience any issue with the battery within the warranty period, bring the device back and we will assess it at no charge.
